3 Steps To Help You Meet Your Business Goals This Year
At the beginning of each new year, people all around the world prepare themselves for a fresh start. People who are recommitting to a healthy lifestyle, making an effort to read more, and purchasing planners and journals so they can make the most of the new year.
When it comes to goal-setting, most people are unsuccessful at maintaining focus throughout the whole year. Not because they don’t care, or aren’t committed enough, but because they don’t have a good plan for success. This problem applies to business goals too. Each year in January I meet with people who have audacious goals for business growth, and sometime around the beginning of Q2, their momentum starts to slow. If you have big goals you want to attain this year, here are 3 things you must do to achieve success.
1. Share Your Goals
Goals that you keep in your head or written down in a journal are hard to achieve. Whether you have a business with a staff of 30 or you’re a freelancer who works alone, make sure you have a plan to share your goals with the people who can help you achieve them. As a business owner myself, I know that if I want to increase productivity, provide new services, or reach a new clientele I have to call upon my team for their input. But it’s not just my team who knows what my business goals are. I share my goals with my trusted friends, business coaches, colleagues, and more. I recommend you share your goals with as many people as possible for two reasons. First, the more people you have on your side, the more they can help you achieve your goals. Second, the more you share, the more accountability you gain. Don’t keep your big ideas to yourself, share them with the world and watch them bloom.
2. Build a Structure
In my experience working with small businesses, there are two types of people I encounter. There are visionaries and there are people who have the skills to turn those visions into reality. Rarely does one person operate excellently in both ways. Most entrepreneurs are visionaries. What happens when you have a visionary leader setting goals? They don’t always know how to create the structure to bring those goals to life. Does this sound familiar to you? This dissonance is exactly why it’s important to surround yourself with people who can pick up where your skillset leaves off. Find someone on your team to take your goals and create the tools to hold your whole company accountable for the growth you want to see.
3. Celebrate Your Wins
Don’t forget to party! There are 4 quarters between now and the end of the year. That’s a long time to wait to celebrate the small wins you achieve along the way. Set some benchmark goals throughout the year so that you and your team can celebrate the small wins that lead to your overall success.
